The eponymous Philippe belongs to one of Houston's most enduringly popular chefs, the French-born Philippe Schmit, who chose the glitzy Galleria area for his upscale French-esque brasserie. Schmit is fond of both his French roots and his adopted home of Texas, which shows in the menu: It ranges between the French and the Texan, with frequent layovers around the Mediterranean basin. The two-story restaurant itself is similarly tumultuous, a charmingly jumbled mix of old-world glamor and steely industrial flare. Try Schmit's twists on old favorites like "pigs in a blanket" and drunken foie gras to see the restaurant really shine, or indulge in a Cowboy burger during the extremely affordable weekday lunches. Downstairs, sommelier extraordinaire Vanessa Treviño Boyd has turned the casual lounge space into one of the better wine bars in town, with a staggering 80 selections by the glass.

Houston evokes many things, but Paris? Nestled in the Galleria area on Post Oak’s main strip is Philippe Restaurant + Lounge, a welcoming French restaurant adamantly doing its part to bring a little of France to this side of Houston.
Whether it's said with Continental flare or a New York accent Philippe’s is synonymous with delicious French fine dining fare. The very popular restaurant is a bright spot you can't help but turn toward for its delicious lunch and dinner specials.
If you're lucky, the gracious proprietor, Philippe Schmit may visit your table and toast to your meal with a signature cocktail or a wine from the restaurant’s extensive list. Bon Appetit!

Take a trip through Philippe's elegantly-appointed dining room and busy kitchen for yourself. There's something wondrous about watching the cork slip softly from a 15-year-old bottle of Burgundy: For a moment, it's like watching time travel in... More »
Being one of the few female sommeliers in town doesn't make Vanessa Treviño-Boyd any less of a powerhouse; if anything, this only makes her more fascinating. In what is a typically male-dominated industry, Treviño-Boyd worked her way through some of New York City's finest restaurants before returning home to Houston and heading straight to the top: Philippe, the two-story French restaurant in the Galleria area that's home to a celebrity chef and celebrity clientele. Working out... More »
One could argue that the real people-watching goes down in the valet drive that's shared by Philippe and its next door neighbor, RDG + Bar Annie. But the younger set always makes its way up Philippe's grand staircase, and that's where the pretty young thing-watching commences. Celebrities both local and national -- think Robert Kardashian and Carolyn Farb -- love this little slice of glitz and glamour in Houston, and especially love being seen with its handsome chef, the eponymous...
