The folks at the Dallas Observer are relieved and grateful that our favorite Deep Ellum lunch spot has reopened in bigger, sweeter digs a few blocks east of the old location on Elm Street. We come here for the cheerful service and excellent lunch specials, including Pescado Vera Cruz, a lightly breaded catfish fillet served with sautéed peppers, onions and tomatoes; guiso, beef tips simmered in a tasty brew of tomatoes, garlic and spices; pork tamales in tomatillo sauce; and the usual Tex-Mex combos, prepared with above-average flair. Pepe's & Mito's has also expanded its hours and now accepts reservations. Those of us who used to wait in line at lunch can cheer that change, too.
Hang onto your pants. It's time to lay out or favorite Tex-Mex restaurants -- an endeavor that consistently draws as passionate a comment stream as any burger post. Pepe & Mito's (Pictured above) Th... More »

Pepe & Mito's in Deep Ellum is a great place to go when you have a hankerin' for tacos al pastor or a pork tamale lunch special with a side of people-watching. It's also toddler-going-nuts-on-an-enchilada friendly. And it's the perfect pre-party Tex-Mex carb load for a night of drunkenness in Deep Ellum. The waitstaff always knows just what you need. Walk in with a big group at dinnertime and the waiter will ask, "Margarita?" Walk in with a toddler at lunch and the waiter will ask,... More »
My favorite Bar-B-Q place outside the loop - it's a little closer to where I live.
Spinach enchiladas, no beans, no rice (though delicious, you won't need them). Always packed during the weekday lunch rush.
It's been a couple of years, I must say, but the chocolate cinnamon shakes and mesquite burgers were swell.
