Penguin Dueling Piano Bar

For years, Pete's Piano Bar has had a monopoly on the Dallas-area piano-bar scene, which you had to go to Addison or Fort Worth to enjoy. Michael Montgomery, co-owner of The Penguin, which is part of a Missouri-based piano bar chain, saw the need in Uptown for piano entertainment. The space the bar occupies on Cedar Springs is cavernous and clean. A long mirror serves as a backdrop to the stage, which is wide enough for two baby grand pianos and a trap set. Audience members can watch themselves sing along from the tables in front of the stage, or build the courage to do so from the bar in the adjacent room.
