Stumbling upon Paradiso Ristorante in Lake Worth is a little like fishing up a Van Cleef & Arpels diamond tennis bracelet while you're Dumpster-diving. In a town of taverns, you hardly expect to find a restaurant where all the waiters dress in expensive black suits with silk ties and call you "Madam." Not only is this space beautiful and classy -- from the violet-tinted lighting to the stone walls and giant murals of the old country -- but the food's exquisite: Chef Angelo Romano turns out mushroom risottos, fillets of sole, venison steaks, and handmade raviolis that have no match in this vicinity. Paradiso also has its own pastry chef; witness the tortes, butter cookies, pistachio cream pies, and flourless chocolate cakes under the pastry counter at the entrance. Yes, you can have it all: Their four-course $58 tasting menu, served nightly, is quite a bargain (and so is the seven-course, for $90).
Beer: It's what's for dinner. Or, at least, it is this week. Beer dinners, tap takeovers, beer pairings; there's a lot of brews to be had in South Florida. Must be getting close to Oktoberfest. In t... More »

The P.R. was relentless. Paradiso, the Lake Worth restaurant owned by Chef Angelo Romano, was celebrating its tenth birthday all season long with a dish of $100 risotto. This was almost more outrageous than the $100 burger recently unveiled at... More »
The sidewalk entrance to Paradiso Ristorante, a set of gleaming wooden doors opening into a room with the subtle, violet-tinted glow of a saltwater aquarium, is an anomaly in downtown Lake Worth, where the reigning aesthetic is set by taverns... More »
The idea of what constitutes excellent restaurant service divides neatly along gender lines -- a Hooters maid tottering over with a tray of beers and burgers might impress our male colleagues, but this year, we girls are dishing out the laurels to those dishy waiters who've caused us so many sleepless post-prandial nights -- the men of Paradiso. It's not that these hunkalicious European studmuffins call us "madam," drawing out lush vowels as if they were licking anisette-flavored... More »
Short of booking a flight to Italy's Amalfi coast, you're not going to find a whole bunch of restaurants where the waiters address you as madam, whip out plates of char-grilled calamari on shredded artichoke and arugula salad, uncork your wine with a flourish of white linen, appear with glasses of chilled, homemade limoncello, and prevail upon you with samples of biscotti. That such a place exists in backward bumpkin Lake Worth, where nothing happens but a lot of bickering over whether to... More »
