Ever since Chipotle established its make-your-own-burrito fast food concept, copy-cats seem to have sprung up at every turn. And they largely vary in quality and taste. While Lime Fresh Mexican Grill is a better rendition, many others offer an even more watered-down version of Mexican street fare that is high in calories but skimps on flavor. Panchero's Mexican Grill falls somewhere in the middle. It's surely not a purveyor of authentic cuisine -- skip this place if you're after spiciness -- but it offers the nice touch of fresh, hand-pressed tortillas. Like other franchises, the menu consists of a trio of tortilla-based options and two "without a tortilla" bowls, each offered with a choice of four bases (chicken, steak, carnitas, or vegetables). Burritos ($5.95) consist of a large flour tortilla, pinto or black beans, rice, cheese, and salsa, while quesadillas ($3.95-$4.95) offer the same minus the beans and rice. Tacos ($4.50) are filled with lettuce, cheese, and salsa. Burrito bowls ($5.95) include everything in the burrito minus a tortilla and salads ($5.50) are the same but with lettuce. One minus: Unlike Chipotle and other sister restaurants, Panchero's doesn't serve cheap margaritas or beer. It does, however, make use of a nifty online ordering system for takeout.
