You have to give the smiling corn-cob sign above Pamonha's Brazilian Cuisine credit for truth in advertising. The cafe specializes in corn, or more specifically, a type of sweet-corn tamal (called a pamonha, or "pah-MO-nyah") rare in North America. The cafe's central Brazilian food is meat-centric and plain to the point of boredom, so you'll want to focus on daily specials like moqueca and feijoada, or the planet's most baroque burger, the X-tudo, whose toppings include hot dogs and corn. The reason for heading to Pamonha's, of course, are the pamonhas, each wrapped in corn husks and weighing in at a pound. Whether they're sweet or salty and studded with cheese and sausage, the pamonhas have the flavor of fresh corn pudding and the texture of a long-stirred polenta.
