Palmer's is one of those bars that's just as likely to have a busy Tuesday afternoon as it is to have a packed Friday night. That doesn't necessarily make it a dive, though -- amidst a neighborhood filled with venues offering craft beers and rock shows, it fills a more down-to-earth role as the West Bank's blue-collar neighborhood bar. Amiable staff, an open summer patio and live music by local folk, blues and country notables make it a worthwhile destination.
Things have changed greatly over time for the Zombie Pub Crawl, which is now in its eighth year. What started as a modest-sized crawl through northeast Minneapolis is now an epic, all-day binge fest drawing in over 10,000 undead to two cities.... More »

Palmer's is a bona fide dive bar. The colorful clientele ain't there for the ambiance, they are there to drink. That can naturally lead to a fair share of..."unreasonable" people, as owner Keith Berg puts it. Luckily, Berg has a secret weapon: Big John. Big John has been working the door at Palmer's for over 10 years, five nights a week. If there's a cover and, say, a group of college kids is about to balk, Big John is pretty much always willing to make a deal. "He's just as smooth as silk,"... More »
Palmer's. Walk into this West Bank dive bar and you'll encounter diversity on many levels: ethnicity, age, gender, income level, and personal disposition. You've got your bearded, bespectacled hipster brooding over his sketchpad near the back. See him? There's a jaded old woman sitting alone at a table and staring into her beer as if it were a crystal ball, trying to summon bygone memories. Over in the corner, a group of young Somali men stare up at the TV, stopping occasionally to rib one... More »
Palmer's serves its West Bank neighborhood well. As the Cedar Avenue respite between the Triple Rock, with its often homogenous clientele, and the 400 Bar, which is always overpriced, Palmer's serves stiff drinks to rowdy, sometimes rough, but always fun-loving patrons. Whether you're a crusty punk, a soul sister, an aging hippie, or simply a very serious drinker, you'll appreciate the place--that is, if you can find a seat (not easy on a crowded weekend) or a dance partner (very easy on a... At the bar, a middle-aged insurance salesman jockeys for position with a swaggering frat rat. They both vie for the bartender's attention. And the bartender? A nine-foot-tall, dreadlocked Martian named Xeoff.
