A beautifully macabre brainchild of downtown Phoenix club guru Steven Rodgers, Palazzo once upon a time served as a constant haunt of the Goth music groupies. These days, however, this dramatic Central Avenue den perched between Amsterdam and Club DWNTWN is used by a different set of souls altogether. Every weekend it transforms into teeming discoteca destination for local chicas y hombres spending their Saturday evenings with Latin music in their ears and close-quarters activities on their minds. Although Palazzo’s balcony hasn’t gotten much use anymore, as its wrought iron railings are merely for decoration purposes only, its gleaming travertine dance floor definitely does, whether it’s salsa songs causing elegant steps between partners or the energetic moves like twerking being incited by reggaeton and merengue flowing from the elevated DJ booth. While a certain segment of the population digs mopey Goth gods like Bauhaus, were guessing that you’ll never catch anyone at Palazzo’s Saturday night shindigs sporting pleather or latex wear.

Betty Crocker, get your booze on -- the German chocolate cake shot could be the sweetest thing to ever hit your lips and liver. This rich, syrupy drink is still something of a secret; many bartenders are lost if the recipe's not in their books. Luckily, most of those behind the bar at Palazzo on the club's weekly Friday goth night, Tranzylvania, know how to cook up this goodie and pour some sugar on us. For the rest, here's the 411: Frost the rim of a shot glass with sugar and lemon.... More »
Hey, we know the difference between goths and Satan-worshipers. After all, the goths may look ghoulish, but we never see them at Black Mass, taking up a collection while we're doing the hard work of sacrificing a virgin. Sheesh! Still, one look at Steven Rogers' glorious new space Palazzo on a Friday night, when he unveils the Goth-Romance-Trance nightclub Tranzylvania, and you know Our Dark Lord Beelzebub must be hard at work somewhere. One part Queen of the Damned, one part Merovingian's... More »
