Paint, as a medium and mode of expression, is so 20th century. Right? Not for the 15 emerging artists presented in the Walker Art Center's new survey, "Painter Painter." Hailing from throughout the U.S. and Europe, this new under-40 crop of painters (including Sarah Crowner, Dianna Molzan, Zak Prekop, and Lesley Vance) takes abstraction and practice beyond the studio and in novel directions. Co-curated by Eric Crosby and Bartholomew Ryan, the show considers "new languages of abstraction and eccentric methods of making," as well as cross-disciplinary interactions with other media, such as fashion, publishing, and performance. There will be an opening-day talk for $10 at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 2, with artist/curator Michelle Grabner, critic/poet Bruce Hainley, critic Jan Verwoert, Crosby and Ryan, and featured artists. (Katy Moran, Joe's in Town)
