i used to get my hair done at this salon when i lived in berkeley. their stylist was the only one who ever satisfied my very picky hair cut & color expectations to it's full potential. it is a fun and funky saloon, and i'd recommend it to all!
To anyone reading this review, if you have anything but straight, fine hair, DO NOT GO TO ASHLEE ERIN. I have thick, curly hair, and its Brazilian straightened which makes it less curly. I specifically requested for Damiano and they put me with Courtney, who had to change last minute, so they put me with the inexperienced Ashlee Erin. I got there early, and was taken in 10 minutes late. I have had the same haircut for about six years, and I needed a change. I mentioned this to Ashlee, who had no insight as to what to do with my hair. I suggested bangs, she said how about side bangs. Then she suggested I go short, to which I told her, that short hair will just stick up because of the thickness and curls. And she said, oh yeah you're right. Aren't those things that she is supposed to tell me, rather than the other way around? I realized she didn't know what she was doing, so I decided to keep it simple and to go with what I always get. I would have to find another stylist to make her haircut look better anyways. So extremely specific instructions - thin it out, and cut off two inches. Light layers. Basically defining what I had. I kept looking to make sure she doesn't mess it up. I guess she was conscious of the fact that she didn't know what to do, I basically walked out with an overpriced trim. Whatever happened to the layers and the thinning out? And she managed to make my hair look poufy, which for anyone that is dealing with curly hair in the rain, it's the ultimate sin. Word of advice Ashlee - bring out the straightening iron. By the end of it, I was so over my experience that I didn't even bother telling her to straight iron it. On my way out the front desk guy loudly announces that it's $60. My overpriced ridiculous looking trim was $60. A complete waste of a Saturday afternoon. And a waste of money. I am sure Oxenrose has many competent stylists, and I'm pretty sure Ashlee can work with easy hair like a men's cut or straight fine hair. But, please don't let someone with curly hair go through another round of an overpriced trim with Ashlee.
