The second outpost of a local, family-owned pizza concept (the original is in the Elitch project in northwest Denver), Organic Pizza Co. is not your typical mom-and-pop joint. For starters, it's located on the ground floor of the spiffy Spire building downtown -- and appropriately enough, it's looking to take pizza to the next level, with an emphasis on keeping everything green. The dough is made fresh every morning; all produce is hand-cut and organic whenever possible; silverware, napkins and cups are recyclable; and employees wear organic cotton shirts. The menu includes salads and an assortment of pies ranging from the typical (pepperoni and cheese) to the not-so-typical (duck, truffle oil and asparagus). For those with wheat allergies, gluten-free pizza dough is available, and packets of organic herbs can be purchased to spice up the pizzas. Organic Pizza Co. delivers within a two-mile radius of both locations, and customers can either eat their pizzas in the cool-looking shops or order them to take-and-bake at home.
