  • 2013 | Best Clothing Store (Women)

What used to be a well-kept secret among couture coveters in the Twin Cities has now become one of the metro's hottest spots to score designer goods: Opitz Outlet. Where else besides a consignment shop can you find a Marc Jacobs sweater for 90 percent off? Opitz has it all, from Prada and Gucci to Anna Sui and Jimmy Choo, for a fraction of the prices you'll find at department stores. While there are a few catches (some of the items are overstocked mall rejects, others have minor flaws, and... More »

  • 2012 | Best Designer Deals

For a society that drools over designer labels but is often too money-conscious to splurge on them, Opitz outlet is a haute couture holy land in the Twin Cities. The St. Louis Park complex is made up of two buildings, one main shopping area featuring perfect or near-perfect shoes, clothing, bags, and jewelry for both men and women, and an "annex" next door filled with similar merchandise that has become flawed and needs (usually) minor repairs. The tag on these items reveals what the damage... More »

  • 2011 | Best Clothing Store (Women)

We bought an $800 Derek Lam cashmere sweater at Opitz recently for $5. Because it had a few flaws, a fancy department store tossed it from its pristine racks like a misfit toy and it made its way to the Opitz Annex across from Opitz headquarters (where most merch is 70 percent off and unflawed). This isn't an unusual occurrence at either building. Though parking is always packed--especially when new clothing arrives on Wednesdays--and the staff is often noticeably overwhelmed, the... More »

  • 2010 | BEST CLOTHING STORE (WOMEN)

Here's a true-life example of how you can spend $100 on an entire bag of clothing at Opitz that would have otherwise cost $1,500 retail: an unbelievably supple $600 MARC NY leather jacket for $50, a $115 sequined hoodie (don't judge) for $11.50, a pair of olive leather boots for $10, and a little black Versace dress complete with serial numbers for $30. Opitz offers deal-seeking fashionistas that special shopping high of 70 to 90 percent off every day, something department stores stingily... More »

  • 2009 | Best Clothing Store (Women)

To broke-but-not-broken fashionistas, Opitz Outlet is a reason for living. Why hit up Nordstrom for the latest Marc Jacobs bag when you can just stalk Opitz (which gets its stock from high-end department stores) for a few weeks and nab a sweet, barely off-season gem for 90 percent off? Recent finds include La Rok and Miss Sixty crocheted shawls for $5, a Triple 5 Soul batwing top for $10, two DKNY trenches for a combined $20, and a Giovanni Navarre zip-up for $5. There are three... • 2004 | BEST PLACE TO MEET SINGLE WOMEN (STRAIGHT)

We are aware that the public penchant for '70's retro fashion includes a revival of the rumor that the best place to meet single women is at the grocery store. This is a lie that's almost as ugly as low-riding flair pants. Gentlemen, if you want to meet single women, position yourself near a $25 pair of Anna Sui boots and then act like you've heard of Anna Sui. Hands down the complaint we hear most from the single women eking out a sex life in this city is, "Men in Minnesota can't dress." So... More »

Opitz is a little more spread out brand-wise than Len Druskin Outlet. Here you'll find Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Theory, and more. Great shoe selection. Again, head to the 80 and 90% off racks first then work your way back to the front. Every week they have a new shipment of stuff - warning - when they get big name designer handbags, get there early as they will be lined up. The super duper discount shop next door which they also own is also worth picking through although many items are damaged. I've snagged some cute stuff though that isn't damaged if I take the time to look through it all.
