For those who dreamed of performing on stage and now are confined to singing in the shower, there's still a chance to show the world your talent. Open Stage, a weekly variety show featuring aspiring singers, comedians and other entertainers, gives wannabe Carmen Mirandas and circus performers alike five minutes to perform for a live audience. If you've got the goods, then you've also got an audition tape, because each performance is recorded for your viewing pleasure. Share your mad skills at House of Poets, 580 W. Arapaho Road in Richardson, on Monday nights. Doors open at 7 p.m., performances begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $5. For more information, visit circusfreaks.org.
Wonderful variety show! More than just an open mic, I've never found another show like it, especially on a Monday night. The acts range from circus arts to movement performance to stage magic to music in all genres. Every week is different, and always fun. I go every week, and really enjoy getting to play right along with these artists and performers as they grow, whether they're just beginning or have a career and an international following.
