You may remember it from the opening titles of Late Night With David Letterman: the Old Town Bar, a fixture in the Flatiron District since 1892. It's far more accessible than the overcrowded McSorley's, and the range of drinks is more copacetic as well. Remember that a quorum of three is required most times of day for the handsome dark-wood booths, and act accordingly. Note: The bar food is a notch above the usual.

Our favorite rendition in New York City is at Old Town Bar, where you can enjoy them in dark-wooded Victorian splendor, the smell of malt in your nostrils. 45 East 18th Street, 212-529-6732 More »
Since I couldn't cite OLD TOWN BAR in two categories in the same issue, it was a toss-up whether I would laud it for wings or fried onion rings--huge rounds hacked from a sweet, sweet onion of amazing girth, dipped in a batter that's light yet crunchily substantial. Bar food magic! Instead, I picked the wings, a bowl of fearfully red chicken limbs flinging off enough vinegar fumes to instantly wrinkle your brow when they arrive. More »
Don't forget to try the hot dogs!!
Great ambiance. Old wood bar, one of the oldest in the city. No pretentious posers here, although when they do come, they pick up the vibe and leave. This is a place to sit and talk w/ friends, very attentive mixologists will turn on you if you're indecisive. Know what you want ! After a few, want the hot dogs !
