Description

While Fuzhou eateries like 118 Lucky hold down the Asian end of big and cheap, the Poles take the cake when it comes to the European end. Greenpoint's Old Poland Bakery and Restaurant, whose symbol is a mounted knight with lance, offers plenty of meals under $5, of which the cheapest choices like chicken livers or pork shanks hover around $4 and include a pair of vegetables and two scoops of potatoes. Loosen the belt first.

The WASP-ish doyenne of the wifely arts is really no WASP at all, but a Pole. A 50-cent upgrade gets you a pair of pork shanks, and for high... More »

Greenpoint's northeastern frontier sustains a half-dozen Polish restaurants so far from the subway that they're known only to residents of this close-knit community. Old Poland Bakery and Restaurant has a facade that features a canvas rendition of... More »
