Description

Old Hickory Steakhouse is newer and fancier than its name implies. Just like the Gaylord Hotel it resides inside, it’s pretty grand, with a circular staircase, leather booths, lots of dark wood and a granite bar with a fireplace. The “steakhouse” part of the name definitely rings true, though – the menu showcases huge slabs of beef, from a dry-aged, bone-in filet to a Black Angus porterhouse, all of which can be topped with sauces ranging from chimichurri to blue cheese and bacon, or old-school bearnaise. (Of course, if red meat’s not your thing, there are always pricy seared scallops or cold-water lobster tail.) As is de rigueur at upscale steakhouses, sides are served a la carte; here they include habanero creamed corn, garlic truffle fries and roasted wild mushrooms. An impressive leather-bound wine list is accompanied by an equally impressive sommelier, and you might consider skipping dessert in favor of a few selections from the cheese cart, because how often do you really encounter a cheese cart?
