A friendly neighborhood joint just east of LoDo, Old Curtis Street is one of Denver's best kept secrets. The atmosphere recalls the warm and welcoming vibe of an old diner. The food and drink prices are beyond fair. With live music three nights a week, bringing everything from punk and indie bands to house DJs, this bar has charmed a loyal crowd of regulars.
While it's uncertain right now if the storied downtown bar at 21st and Curtis will ever host live bands again -- or even scarcely resemble the beloved dive we've all come to know and love, for that ... More »
Update (1/4/13): We caught up with Devin Mendoza, who's worked at and booked shows at Old Curtis for the past two years, and he gave us a little more insight into the bar's unexpected closing. Last ... More »
Yeah, the world might end tonight. But just in case it doesn't, hold onto some of your cash, rather than ending up like one of Harold Camping's followers. Because there will be plenty of ways to spend... More »
Three-day weekends rule, and this one is certain to be a hit. The city is bursting with stuff to do, and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to do it. Watch Footloose, see a Tim and Eric Awesome ... More »

With Joe Ramirez, Andy Wild and Steve Lawson doing their best with the sound levels, Old Curtis St. has gone from a bottom-of-the-barrel venue to a viable one. More »
It doesn't have a line down the block or a slate of superstar celebrity guest DJs. It's not the place to see or be seen. Nor is it filled with fickle hipsters who instantly think everything is so ten minutes ago. What Chit Chat is, is the city's best house party -- er, make that club night. Helmed by Jason Heller and Big Al, the dynamic duo who created the wildly popular and now-defunct Off the Wall series at the hi-dive, Chit Chat has a casual, unassuming vibe unlike any other night in... There's a venue in Denver to cover just about any taste, price range or neighborhood prejudice. But the stalwart Old Curtis Street Bar has its own vibe entirely. Sitting precisely between Monkey Mania and the Carioca Cafe in a little no-man's-land that yuppies rarely touch, Old Curtis is a downtown oasis. Cheap beer, a great jukebox, cool DJs and hipster trivia nights (Simpsons! Sci-fi!) are all pluses. What you might not expect, though, is how much fun the live shows are. You won't catch... More »
