Description

Walking into Oddfellows, on the Bishop Arts District restaurant row, the place all but purrs relaxed, bohemian cool. There's nothing faux about the overhead exposed ducts and factory-worthy hanging lamps. The wall art is kitschy, with a clear provenance in some of the finest metroplex garage sales. The knives and forks, wrapped in paper napkins, reside comfortably in empty soup cans, and its food is every bit as unpretentious as its insouciant aura. Menu favorites include Texas Poutine, the Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese and the all-natural, grass-fed local beef burger. Oddfellows takes its caffeine output very seriously, so seriously that it possesses one of the rarest Italian espresso makers. This magic machine produces many a great cup or shot of java.

  • 2012 | Best Bloody Mary

Drink Oddfellows' house-made bloody mary and you can skip brunch. True to Oddfellows' rustic chic, it only makes sense that the BM, like everything else on the menu, tastes farm-to-table. Served in a mason jar and garnished with pickled okra, celery and olives, its flavor is sweet, peppery and redolent of fresh vegetables. Just try to drink only one. Of course, what is brunch if not an invitation to day drink. Right? RIGHT? More »

  • 2012 | Best Place To Take the Kids to Brunch

There are two different brunch crowds in the world: the people who roll out of bed at quarter past 11 and don't actually wake up until the first mimosa, and there are the people with small children who show up at the restaurant when the doors open for breakfast. For the early risers and their parents, Oddfellows in Oak Cliff's Bishop Arts District is more than accommodating. They'll be waiting at the door with crayons and coloring sheets, and by the time the kids throw all the colors on the... More »

  • 2011 | Best Fried Chicken

There are hundreds of different ways to make fried chicken, but the one employed at Oak Cliff coffee shop and restaurant Oddfellows is more likely to be seen on an episode of Iron Chef America than in a typical Southern kitchen. The chicken is prepared sous vide, a slow cooking method, then battered and fried to order. This ensures that each bite will be tender and juicy, and it cuts down on time spent waiting for your order. The restaurant encourages sharing, only offering portions big... More »

  • 2011 | Best Mac 'n' Cheese

Oddfellows' Buffalo chicken mac 'n' cheese is so much more than noodles and artisan cheese. Does that skew the playing field? Maybe, but this isn't a democracy. Make no mistake, this is no side dish to your Wagyu burger (which is delicious). It's an entrée. A pair of chicken tenders coated in buffalo sauce sit on a bed of macaroni, scallions and blue cheese from Dublin, Texas. Now, for those of you disposed to imbibe, here's a recommendation: Chase it with an IPA, because this stuff... More »
