Simple, exquisite Japanese food served in a simple, exquisite setting (handcrafted wood furniture in cozy rooms or on a pleasant walled patio) on Berkeley's shopping mecca, Fourth Street. The daily bento box at lunch is a bargain. We love O Chamé's slow-roasted salmon and black cod, the succulent sliced steak, and the beds of interesting vegetables they come on (kale, spinach, baby bok choy, and meaty portobello or chanterelle mushrooms among them), the steaming bowls of soba or udon noodles with a variety of meats or fish (perhaps roasted oysters with seaweed and sprouts), and we find the signature sherry custard and almond macaroons irresistible.
