  • 2011 | Best Movie Theater

Paul Allen's Cinerama is swell, but outside a few special engagements (SIFF sometimes included), it only plays blockbusters. Landmark's Harvard Exit and Egyptian have better movies and considerable charm, but they're also pretty threadbare (the parent company was for sale, but no buyers bit). For that reason, on the grounds of programming quality, neighborhood, and local control, Northwest Film Forum wins by a mile. Its Capitol Hill two-plex now serves beer and wine; it hosts mini-fests... More »

  • 2010 | Best Way to Overcome Big-Apple Hunger

If anything, the economy is still worse in New York than in Seattle. Add to that the cost of housing (even in Brooklyn), and moving to NYC can seem like a pipe dream. But what about all the culture we're supposedly missing Not so much in the film arena, thanks to Northwest Film Forum, which imports just about every art-house title direct from Manhattan. Downtown favorites this year have included Trash Humpers (which director Harmony Korine attended), Daddy Longlegs, and Werner Herzog's... More »

As suggested by a scholar in this numinous essay-doc, if the current craze for walking a pilgrim's path can't be tied directly to the German writer W.G. Sebald, it certainly feels Sebaldian. That he secured adjectival status in the decade followin... More »

Excellent venue to watch film and attend film festival screenings. The Northwest Film Forum on Seattle's Capitol Hill has been a great space to view movies, attend events, and meet friends at receptions and screenings. The Northwest Film Forum also holds film workshops, offers programs for youth, and provides equipment rentals. Check 'em out online for film schedules and further info.
