Norman's Tavern is just far enough away from South Beach to be unfashionable, which for the rest of us means relaxed, not subject to the supercilious gaze of the fashionistas. Although this area of Collins is starting to hop, if not yet jump, you can still find parking without too much trouble. At this very friendly locals hangout you can order low -- burgers, wings, salads, and other typical pub fare. Or you can upgrade with steaks, grilled seafood, and fish. Along with the eats you can drink -- 35 beers add to the ambiance -- and, of course, be merry -- two professional-size pool tables hold court. Sports buffs can also regale in a cavalcade of rugby, soccer, baseball or football games, beamed in on satellite TV.
This place is great! I can't think of any other local sports bar on Miami Beach that has delicious food, great service, and a fun atmosphere for everyone. I can hangout with my girlfriends on a lazy Sunday afternoon at the outdoor cafe. Saturday nights has a great DJ. The crowd is diverse. You have groups of hunky guys playing billiards next to a romantic adult couple sharing a bottle of Veuve Clicqout. The owner told us that they try to use quality products whenever they can like this grass-fed beef which we tried and was so tasty. I recommend it for anyone families, couples, singles that are looking for an energetic vibe without all the common Miami Beach fuss.
Every day, including Christmas and Easter (and probably during hurricanes), Norman's celebrates its late-night happy hour from midnight to 5 a.m. When other bars close and people are sick of dancing on South Beach, tired of paying $15 for a cocktail, or looking for a good time when the freaks come out, they hit this Miami Beach gem for $5 martinis, margaritas, and mojitos, and $4 mixed drinks (vodka, rum, and tequila). The kitchen stays open till 3 a.m. (Fridays and Saturdays; till 1 a.m.... More »
It's almost a disservice to call Norman's steaks, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers "bar food." The term implies food for an empty stomach and churning head (or is it the other way around?), and Lord knows anything that'll soak up that last drink or two you shouldn't have had usually qualifies as good eats in the wee hours of the morning. Norman's offerings, on the other hand, are just plain delicious: caesar and caprese salads, mahi-mahi fingers (lightly battered and fried), tenderloin... More »
With all due respect to Club Deuce, Zeke's, and the Abbey Pub, sometimes even those establishments aren't powerful enough to shield you from attitude-heavy South Beach. When such ennui strikes, try Norman's. It's just far enough away to be unfashionable, which for the rest of us means relaxed, not subject to the supercilious gaze of the fashionista. "This is very much a locals' bar," explains owner Xavier Cervera. "People who grew up around here, versus South Beach, which is very transient."... More »
