Description

Of all the wild flights of fancy the sandwich has taken over the last few years, none have been more profound than those seen at No. 7 Sub Shop, an offshoot of Ft. Greene's No. 7. The shop is located in the the Ace Hotel, which also houses Stumptown, Café Breslin, and the new John Dory. A traditional eggplant parmesan hero made with fried yellow squash, fontina, and pickled jalapenos is one of the slightest and most delectable innovations, but you'll also find rare roast beef matched with pickled blueberries, tuna salad with beets and feta cheese, and a Turkey cubano with daikon and mustard greens, for an unexpected Asian twist. No place to sit down, so plan on carrying out, or dining at the shelf overlooking Broadway.

Robert Sietsema's Top 10 1. This doesn't mean I'm forsaking my first love, Katz's pastrami, but the smoked-meat sandwich at Mile End is denser, redder, and offered in a sandwich that's just the right size for one person to eat, which means I don'... More »
