A stylishly dark restaurant tucked just outside the lobby of Westwood's swank W Hotel, 930 takes it name from the hotel's street address and specializes in New American cuisine. The food is quite good -- generally a smart, flawlessly executed take on whatever ingredients are ubiquitous in any given season. You can get a burger here, but why would you? The skate is much more interesting; so is the beef bourguignon or the salmon, pan-roasted and served with quinoa and sunchokes. The service is good and the restaurant quiet enough for real conversation, but if you feel like a party after dinner, well, Rande Gerber has a bar right outside the door where, as the night goes on, things get loud and you will almost certainly be offered a free drink by a handsome young Persian.
If you're into high-falutin' dining for cheap-ass prices, live it up at the Nine Thirty restaurant, inside the W Hotel in Westwood, where, for $8, you can indulge in caramelized Brussels sprouts -- offered as an appetizer -- which more than suffices as a meal in itself.
