Ordering at the counter makes for faster service, despite long lines at this Montrose-area Houston institution. It's hard not to like everything on the extensive and authentic Greek menu. The gyros and lamb shank are legendary. Food is served on Styrofoam plates with plastic utensils that spoil the atmosphere a little but don't affect the food. Niko Niko's also has great desserts and baked goods.
This week, our Where The Chefs Eat series turns to two amateur chefs turned television reality stars: Christine Ha and Alvin Schultz. Both living in Houston and Vietnamese by descent, they each snagg... More »
Now listen: I love Urbanspoon. I love that it links directly to professional food critics' reviews of restaurants, so that I have a real sense of a place when I'm in an unfamiliar city. I love the map... More »
Imagine a bar run by Houston's best bartenders and mixologists where 100 percent of the proceeds would be donated to a local charity at the end of each month. It's not just a wild-eyed fantasy; it's a... More »

A Greek restaurant for Texan appetites, Niko Niko's routinely has a line out the door. Thankfully, it moves quickly. Excellent service and awesome food make Niko Niko's a bastion of consistency in the Houston food world. Whether you want falafel, baba ghanoush or a gyro, you can find it all and more at this local landmark. Make sure to eyeball the dessert display before you go, but try not to drool on the glass. For more than 30 years, Niko Niko's has been offering up authentic Greek food, many of the recipes coming from founder Eleni Fetokakis's father's restaurant in Athens. A converted gas station, Niko Niko's is always bustling with diners eager to get their Greek on. Customers form a line at the counter and fire their orders off into one of the most prolific kitchens in town. Gyros served in warm puffy pita with sweet onions, juicy kabobs and Greek salads served with a large slab of feta are... More »
The first time we had the char-grilled lemon pepper pork chops, we wanted to vault the counter and make out with Dimitri. The chops are thick and juicy, and the meat is so full of flavor you won't want to wait the five seconds it takes you to cut your next bite. We had to pick them up and devour them with our bare hands. "We're going to have to hose you off!" friends said. The chops come in a set of two, and when you first look at your plate you think, "There is no way I can eat that much."... More »
Wonderful little greek-american cafe....great food and service...super clean kitchen and great owner Dimitrios.
The Lemon Chicken Soup is the best soup i've ever had. Great for when you have a cold or just because!
Seriously, just go! Have anything on the menu, dine al fresco, watch the shoppers, and enjoy a little greek heaven!
