Description

Not only is the Newman Center for the Performing Arts a jewel box of a venue, with its three intimate performance spaces and elegant balconied plaza, but it also plays host to one of the finest college concert series in this or any other city. The building itself is a beauty, built for the ages from Indiana limestone and decorated with bas relief frescoes and a gorgeous carved-stone window. And the world-class performance stages -- including the elegant Gates Concert Hall, the functional Hamilton Recital Hall and the innovative Byron Flexible Theatre – offer plenty of spaces for performance students to feel at home and for world and avant-garde artists to showcase their skills alongside such mainstays as dance and baroque performances. Buy a ticket and see what it’s all about.

  • 2010 | Best Unsung Arts Series

Not only is the Newman Center a jewel box of a venue, with its three intimate performance spaces and elegant balconied plaza, but it also plays host to one of the finest college concert series nobody ever heard of, thanks to the often adventurous programming of center director Stephen Seifert. In a world where such arts mainstays as dance and baroque music remain hard sells, Seifert fights back by bringing in Pilobolus or the thoroughly different Mile High Voltage Festival, featuring world... What a wonderful addition to DU! This venue is very intimate, but has amazing acoustics. DU brings is a large variety of shows year-round. I just saw the Denver Brass about a month ago and it was wonderful!
