Xe May Sandwich Shop
New York, NY 10003
Village Voice's Description
With just a few seats available, Xe May Sandwich Shop specializes in fusion banh mi, the popular baguette-based hoagies usually filled with assorted cold cuts, pickled vegetables, and cilantro. The sammys are quite good, especially the super club classic, which piles on headcheese, pork roll, and a liver pâté. The lambretta—which tucks thinly sliced lamb in a mild coconut-curry sauce into a soft, chewy loaf—works well, too, especially when paired with a refreshing basil limeade soda. You'll also find wacky banh mi tacos, which stuff the sandwich fillings into tortillas, but they're better in theory than practice.
Tips from foursquare
Xe May puts has an eccentric take on bahn mi... so eccentric that they're mixing grilled beefsteak with pineapple chutney to create the tasty "Sidecar."
Cheaper and fresher than Baoguette, better than Nicky's, and cheaper and bigger than Num Pang!
Village Voice is excited to have Xe May Sandwich Shop at the 2012 Choice Eats food fest! Full list of restaurants here: http://ow.ly/8QjDQ
New favorite bahn mi in the city, just delicious. Cub Classic is utterly amazing, with superb BBQ pork, pate, perfectly toasted bread (+ jalepenos). Notice how many quality adjectives were used?
Can't go wrong with a Super Cub Classic. Ask them to make it spicy
