Description

Village Voice's Description

Despite its apparent connection with Brooklyn's Pete's Ale House, the food here is considerably better. Old-timer Waterfront Ale House has long been Kip's Bay's favorite neighborhood bar, shading into gastropub territory with its slightly-sophisticated-for-bar-food offerings. The hamburger is solid and reliable, the nachos more well-cheesed than they need to be. But check the evening chalkboard specials, which include rather daring things for a bar, such as diverse fish carefully broiled, various chops and cutlets, and, especially, meal-size salads that seem aimed at the ladies. The main draw here, though, is an extensive on-tap beer list, including the products of craft brewers from all over the country.

Tips from foursquare

  • Brew York on 04/23/12

Free popcorn, great craft beer on tap, and a great food menu make this the go-to beer spot in Kips Bay.

  • Diana M. on 06/28/10

The food here is amazing. I always order off the specials board. The hot sauce selection is also impressive.

  • The Corcoran Group on 03/05/12

Don't let the dark exterior dissuade you from coming in an enjoying a few beers and a delicious Ostrich Burger and Sweet Potato Fries or the Moroccan Stew.

  • Brian K. on 07/25/11

try to stick to the fish dishes (good specials)

  • Burger Bedlam on 02/03/11

Great weekly beer selection. Skip the burger and order the vinegar based pulled pork, one of the best in town.
