Description

Village Voice's Description

Of the four northern Chinese dumpling stalls in Chinatown this is our favorite, offering pork-and-chive pot stickers, boiled beef sandwiches on wedges of homemade sesame bread, vegetable-filled hot and sour soup, and the legendary chive box (ask for "chives and egg pancake");a half-moon pie filled with scallions, vermicelli, scrambled egg, and, sometimes, baby shrimp. The box is prepared on the spot and cooked to order. Also look for the jar of summer kimchi at the carryout window. Best of all: Most selections are around $1, and there are bags of frozen dumplings to take home.

The place to go if you're on a budget & you're in the Chinatown neighborhood! Favorite picks: pork & chive dumplings; sesame pancake with peking duck; sesame pancake w/ roast beef

You can get an entire meal at Vanessa's Dumpling House for under $5! I highly recommend the chive and pork fried dumplings (4 for $1) and the sesame pancake sandwich with tuna salad for $2. If you don't like fennel, black licourice, anise tasing stuff, stay away from the basil and chicken dumplings even though they sound really good. You'll thank me.

Tips from foursquare

This tiny little venue has tiny little prices for their delightful dumplings. The sesame pancakes are also great, and perfect to grab to-go on your way to picnic in the park, just a block west.

Amazing dumplings. Pork sandwich looked super delicious too (I'm trying that next time). You can try cutting the line by ordering at the window outside, but that's a real crapshoot.

My girlfriend dumped me after I took her on a date here... she was a skank anyway-this place awesome!

  • Cheapism on 12/11/10

For $5 or less, fill up on some of NYC’s greatest cheap dumplings. Try the sesame pancakes for $.50 each and get 3 pork fried buns for $1.

  • Foodspotting on 12/14/10

Try the pork and chive dumplings and spot it on Foodspotting!
