Description

Village Voice's Description

Travertine looks like the sort of place that cares more about its DJ than its chef. The female servers have been made to dress like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Unch-unch-unch booms the music. "May I say a few words about the menu," says the waiter, without really asking, and proceeds to up-sell with a passion. When the food arrives, he will say, "Madam will be enjoying the lamb." Oh, will madam? The surprise is that these dishes are very solid, expertly prepared. We particularly liked a rich pig's head terrine and juicy lamb chops. Above all, don't miss the pastas, which are homemade and delicious.

Tips from foursquare

  • Thrillist on 05/07/10

Do it all for the “Nookie,” which in this case is their signature drink made of mint/Bombay/St Germain/dry vermouth.

  • Gilt City on 12/03/10

On the always-changing menu are delicacies such as delicate beef carpaccio with watercress aioli and lemony shrimp scampi with capers and dill. We say: try both.

  • Gilt City on 08/23/10

A new-and-now Nolita restaurant that boasts house-made pasta and superb seafood dishes. Run, don’t walk.

  • Amanda K. on 10/02/09

The pastas are fab, and the portions are huge, all under $20. Perfect spot for lady dates.

  • Elyse E. on 11/09/10

Try the Praying Nixon cocktail. Bourbon, lemon juice and red wine floater.
