Village Voice's Description

The economy's downturn has elevated so many dishes that were considered below our notice before. Now the humble meatball comes rolling our way, exulted to the level of a glamorous entrée. Check out the handsome premises of the Meatball Shop--decorated with deconstructed meat grinders--and note the large variety of meatball-matching opportunities. Start out with the exemplary meatball hero: Made with beef balls and excellent mozzarella, it's the best meatball hero in town. The lamb meatballs, when available, are even better, and the pork version's good, too, but skip the salmon balls and vegetarian balls. Also wonderful are the various combinations of cookies and ice cream made into dessert sandwiches.

I come from a restaurant family. My gandmother Mary was the maker of the meatballs. This place would bring tears to her eyes. You will not be disappoitted.

Tips from foursquare

  • It's all meatballs here, rolled into shape, featuring beef, spicy pork and chicken. Most popular is a bowl of beef meatballs with the classic tomato sauce and a slice of focaccia ($7).

Who can resist the brownie cookie? Dense and chocolaty as a brownie, complete with a crackly shell!

All meatballs all the time. Dive into a spicy meatball sub slathered with parmesan cream sauce. The choices are endless.

On Meat & Potatoes, host Rahm Fama stops by The Meatball Shop, a meat-lover's spot that's open late into the night and tries the special goat meat Billy Balls. Find more tips at Food Network Local.

Get a load of these balls. The permutations are almost endless with beef, pork, salmon, chicken and even vegetable ball varieties. Balls, balls, balls!
