Description

Village Voice's Description

The original location of The Bourgeois Pig became so popular it soon outgrew its tiny boudoir-like space. Its latest, much larger incarnation across the street shares the same velvety atmosphere that made the first one such a popular spot for dates. Blood-red lighting, damask wallpaper, marble-topped tables and plush Victorian furniture all set the mood for love, just as long as the host can actually find a seat for you. The wine list, with bottles ranging from $32 to more than $100, focuses mainly on reds, whites and sparkling wines from France. Wine cocktails, sangria, champagne punch and beer cocktails are all treated with care, which is no surprise seeing as the bar is owned by Ravi DeRossi, who also runs the cocktail Mecca known as Death & Co. There is also an assortment of upscale snacks; charcuterie, bruschetta, cheese boards, sweets and, for the especially romantically inclined, a variety of fondue plates.

Remember to go check out The Bourgeois Pig at 122 E. 7th St (btw Ave A and 1st Ave) in New York. (ps: added from my iPhone!)

BEST place for wine. 1/2 price bottles on Mondays and Tuesdays. Great atmosphere and killer cheese plates.

A hidden treasure on 7th st, we recommend the Provence Punch bowl for you + 2. The bowl arrives with adorable tea cups! If you're a fan of St. Germain, there's not a lot you won't love on the menu.

  • Rachel Dratch of SNL says, "It’s just a cozy vibe. I love a bar with couches."

Get the fondue! (either cheese or chocolate, both are good)
