Village Voice's Description

Consisting of two adjacent stalls in a mall food court, Taste of India and Thali are, respectively, a northern Indian joint offering braised and curried meats, tandoori selections, and northern Indian mughal vegetarian fare; and a southern Indian snack parlor with made-to-order and per-item-priced dosas and idlies, and other dishes on an extensive steam table, sold by weight. Though limited to a select few, the dosas (Indian crepes) and idlies (steamed dumplings) are great, but much of the southern Indian steam table stuff is starchy and bland. By contrast, the northern Indian steam table has several estimable goat, chicken, and vegetable dishes on display. My favorite at either place is uppma -- a doctored cream of wheat studded with black mustard seeds and curry leaves.
