Description

Village Voice's Description

The Studio, a baby performance space lurking in the belly of historic Webster Hall, fits 300 people--less than a quarter of the bigger spot's capacity. Thus, with a stage low enough for climb 'n' dive antics, it's just the right size to host the latest circuit of indie rockers, giving invaluable chances to up-and-comers--including recent breakthrough acts Sleigh Bells, Marnie Stern, and Free Energy--before they graduate to the space right above their heads. There's a full bar, too, while you're waiting around for their transition.

From Al Capone to Amanda Palmer! Since 1886 it's hosted great live music, legendary parties and superb Broadway cast recordings. Catch a killer show here and see if the walls really do talk...

  • HISTORY on 04/10/10

Built in 1886, you could hear anarchist Emma Goldman speak one night & on another night attend a society function for New York’s elite. Rumors persist that it was once owned by Al Capone.

The electro event Girls & Boys is a serious A.List dance party. Friday’s set gets a special upgrade with music by Juan MacLean & British electropop band Hot Chip. Expect 4 floors & hundreds of women.

  • TODAY Show on 05/19/10

Known as a concert hall for up and coming as well as established acts. It was once a venue for Broadway cast recordings.
