Description

Village Voice's Description

Park Slope, long the territory of strollers and food co-ops, now has an honest-to-goodness neighborhood rock (and rap and electronica) club. Housed in a 5,000 square foot, former 99 Cent Discount Store, Southpaw brings Manhattan-caliber talent (Sleater-Kinney, Slick Rick, TV on the Radio) to Kings County, and serves cheap beer in a luxe, lounge-like atmosphere. Don't miss monthly hip-hop dance party the Rub; it's legendary.

I had fun at the Punk Vinyl Festival at Southpaw. The punk DJ was good so it was fun to look threw the album art and check out some punk history. I was tempted to pop for some vinyl mementos, but my friend Richie said I really should own a turntable before I pop for vinyl. Sane drink prices, noisy punk music, sexy punk crowd = fun. Tips from foursquare

  • There's really not a bad angle in the house, but arrive early to score bench seats on the rear platform.

One of the very few venues in Brooklyn constantly supporting a vast array of established & independent artists. Nice, long bar. Has a classic decor & feel. Sound is always impeccable.

  • Metromix on 07/27/11

On busier nights find the Downsouth's second full bar where you can chill out in a space not unlike an old-time bomb shelter.

  • OurStage on 04/06/11

One of the Top 5 venues in NY according to TIME OUT NYC. 350-500 capacity room catering to nationally touring bands and popular locals.
