Village Voice's Description

This sprawling beer garden mixes three languages (Slav, English, and German) in its moniker. It was carved from an ancient factory on a Williamsburg side street, but zillions have discovered it, and the joint is packed by mid-evening. The list of 13 draft beers is a wonder of taste (our fave: Gaffel Kolsch, a crisp golden ale from Koln, Germany), but the food menu may leave you scratching your head. Scrapping the usual Buffalo wings and burgers, the abbreviated bill of fare is unusual, slightly upscale - and wonderful. The terrine mixing the livers of rabbits and chickens is superb, served with a plethora of toasts; while the roast quail in demi glace is the equal of any found in a fancy French restaurant. Vegetarians will dig the spinach palacinki (crepes) in a cheesy tomato sauce.

An incredibly authentic biergarten in a huge space that is perfect for going with a group of friends on the weekend or check out some live gypsy music and bring a date. Tons of beers to choose from and great food too.

A retractable roof, 13 Central European beers on tap (try Czech Krusovice Imperial), and great food. What's not to love about this spacious beer garden named for the West Slavic god of hospitality?

Congratulations, you've found one of Esquire's Best Beers in America. We highly recommend getting a liter of Gösser pilsner.

This Choice Eats participant brought Easter Sausage in a blanket with Radegast mustard dipping sauce, Beef Cheek Carbonnade, and (mmmm) Donuts with Chocolate Sauce.
