Description

Village Voice's Description

Behind an unassuming red door branded with the crest of a glowing lion, the stark and Southeast Asian-inspired Pegu Club waits. There, in a gold-tinted room of rich mahogany fixtures, kimono-clad waitresses serve you extraordinary cocktail delicacies, such as the Earl Great MarTEAni, a mixture of Earl Grey-infused gin, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, and raw egg white. It's creamy, it's smoother than velvet, it capitalizes the word "Cocktail," and, like every other drink on the menu, it's totally worth 13 bucks.

Even if you have the address, you will walk right past the door. Once inside you will agree it was worth the journey to find it. Cool vibe and awesome cocktails.

The bartenders at Pegu Club take their drinks very seriously. Sit at the bar and just watch them do their magic. It's wonderful. All of the drinks are delicious and top-notch. The cocktails do change seasonally, but I especially love the Earl Grey MarTeani. (get it?!) It is just like it sounds: early grey-infused gin with a little simple syrup and egg white to make it frothy.... More >>

Tips from foursquare

  • Time Out New York on 10/05/11

Drink the refreshing Greenmarket Melonball. The orange-tinged tipple is one of our #100best dishes and drinks of 2011.

sexy cocktail lounge above the fray of houston street, you might just be in burma, i love the jamaican firefly and the old cuban, both drinks not people btw

  • One of the original New Wave of high-end cocktail bars. Hard to go wrong on the menu, but Whiskey Smash -- go light on the simple syrup -- is perhaps the best mint julep in town. [BlackBook]

  • Metromix on 07/12/10

Take a trip back to The Prohibition as this lounge that celebrates the spirit of drinking through a barely marked passageway. They only use fresh ingredients with a creative touch.

From the Summer 2011 menu: I'm fond of the Tomatillo Highball with gin, tomatillo juice, basil syrup, and jalapeno.
