Description

Village Voice's Description

After an American culinary student found love with a butcher in Paris, the married couple moved to New York and opened a cafe in the East Village inspired by their time in the city of love: grilled sandwiches like goat cheese and avocado spread on multi-grain bread, and roasted butternut squash with sauce cert, fontina and Parmesan on ciabatta, plus a classic croque monsieur. Muffins, bagels, and quiches are always available with fair trade cups of coffee. Paradis is to-go for a reason. A dozen wicker chairs can't hold the foot traffic, but a family-friendly atmosphere and close proximity to Union Square keeps folks coming back. --Jessica Goodman

Tips from foursquare

The Spinach pie is a must-have: Shiny, crackly layers of filo dough are crammed full with carefully seasoned puréed spinach and dusted with dried herbs that taste strongly of oregano.

  • Village Voice on 11/09/10

The Village Voice voted this Best Spinach Pie in our Best of New York Poll!

Chocolate chip cookies are just the right amount of salty, sweet, hard, and soft

  • Liz B. on 04/11/12

I'm going to go ahead and say this is the best chocolate chip cookie in the universe.

  • Kirsten P. on 02/11/13

Definitely recommend their chocolate cupcake with the bright pink buttercream frosting! Crumbs & Robicelli have competition for best cupcake.
