Description

Village Voice's Description

Of all the wild flights of fancy the sandwich has taken over the last few years, none have been more profound than those seen at No. 7 Sub Shop, an offshoot of Ft. Greene's No. 7. The shop is located in the the Ace Hotel, which also houses Stumptown, Café Breslin, and the new John Dory. A traditional eggplant parmesan hero made with fried yellow squash, fontina, and pickled jalapenos is one of the slightest and most delectable innovations, but you'll also find rare roast beef matched with pickled blueberries, tuna salad with beets and feta cheese, and a Turkey cubano with daikon and mustard greens, for an unexpected Asian twist. No place to sit down, so plan on carrying out, or dining at the shelf overlooking Broadway.

Tips from foursquare

  • For about $9, you can get one of about a dozen subs on homemade bread. Among the best is the lamb meatloaf with strawberry pico de gallo, curried crema, cheddar and pappadam.

The best sandwiches in walking distance to IFC headquarters. Slightly Off ingredients like "imitation lobster meat" and "pickled daikon" keep the IFC Staff lined up along Broadway. - IFC Staff

  • Time Out New York on 10/05/11

Try the seasonal Halloween Sandwich, a monster mash-up of short rib braised with garlic, jalapeño & onion, plus sweet potatoes & melted marshmallows. It’s one of our #100best dishes & drinks of 2011.
