National Coalition Against Censorship
New York, NY 10038
Village Voice's Description
This coalition of literary, artistic, religious, professional, and labor groups fights for freedom of expression, speech, and thought all over the country. Much of its work is philosophical and is based upon slight legal actions that could have a big impact on freedoms in the future. The leaders of this 50-member-group organization not only promote activism and monitor litigation and legislation (on matters such as abstinence-only sex education, which they staunchly oppose), but they also engage with the writers, actors, and really, people from every field, by organizing educational conferences and publishing a quarterly newsletter.
