Village Voice's Description
Ah, Nancy Whiskey Pub, the acclaimed dive bar where the Bud flows for $2.50 a pint and is served with an extra hit of sass. Ben Westhoff selected this quintessential watering hole for our "New York's Best Dive Bars" feature: "At the best dive bars, misery and dread are balanced by elation and poorly reasoned optimism," he writes. This is borne out by the chatty, tight-knit collective of regulars continually mustering up the stamina for another round of shuffleboard (which dominates a sizable portion of the room), and by the bartender who occasionally whips out a tambourine and smacks it to the White Stripes' "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground." This calamity will rouse you from whatever reverie you may be having at the time, and you'll be grateful.
Tips from foursquare
If you prefer to get away from the crowd and tend to gravitate towards more of a dive-type place, then Nancy Whisky Pub on Lispenard is the place for you.
Congratulations, you've found one of Esquire's Best Bars in America. We recommend getting a pitcher of Guinness.
Hide upstairs and drink during your lunch break.
Dive haven in the midst of lockjaw joints.
Grab a seat at the bar and order a delicious burger. Monday through Thursday Buds are $2.50 until 7pm and pitchers of Bud or St. Pauli Girl are $10 5pm until closing.
