Village Voice's Description
Power past the spiny cactus paddles, pungent papalo leaves, pale green tomatillos, and oblong orange guavas at this Mexican grocery and find a tiny eatery inside, like any of the dozens of grocery-taquerías in Brooklyn, but with a large kitchen and ambitious menu. You can get, for example, a reasonable facsimile of the freshly made quesadillas you fell in love with at the Red Hook soccer fields-giant flops of masa dough stuffed with meat, cheese, crema, and lettuce. Carne asada (beef) is your default filling, but
on the weekends you can regale yourself with barbacoa (steamed goat).
Tips from foursquare
Try the flor de calabaza quesadilla. Fresh masa is griddled, then topped with mounds of sautéed squash blossoms, cotija cheese, crema and lettuce. It’s one of our #100best dishes and drinks of 2011.
Weird food club score: Get a quesadilla con huitlacoche aka Mexican truffle aka corn smut, not easy to find in NYC. $4. http://www.brooklyntheborough.com/2010/08/the-dish-uncovering-huitlacoche/
