Village Voice's Description
California Taqueria tanked and here's its replacement: a casual Mexican cafe and takeout that does a cooking school riff on standards like chile relleno and mole poblano. Move over, Rocking Horse Cafe! Try barbacoa--beef marinated in garlic and tequila, braised, shredded, scooped into a corn husk, cushioned with good Spanish rice and refried black beans. Part of the menu is devoted to not-as-Mexican salads, which are fine nonetheless. Dig the purple interior and colorful plastic tablecloths.
Tips from foursquare
They're taking credit cards now. Oh. And order the specials. They're phenomenal.
try the chicken mole burrito and a flavored margarita. If you're in mood for something fancier, all of their specials are quite good. Probably one of the best gourmet mexican restaurants in NYC.
Special salsa and jalapeño margarita, you'll come back for more.
