Village Voice's Description

A classic, comfy pub that takes its name from the Brazilian word for passion fruit, this bar features a house drink of Brazilian Cachaca rum and passion fruit juice. It's intoxicating, and anchors a reliably savory bar menu of cheese fries and meaty sandwiches. The outdoor garden and rear pool table see more crowds than the central space, which features a digital jukebox that skews heavily toward nu-metal. Fear not: the amiable crowd more than makes up for the occasional Evanescence three-peat.

Tips from foursquare

This place has fantastic, affordable arepas that will make you crave Caracas at least once a month. The sauce is good on everything, and even the coffee is amazing. Did I mention CHEAP!?

Order (in this order): A beer + shot of rum for $1, the Yoyos and/or plantain chips and La Surena. #dareyounottoloveit

Get the del Gato. One if you're hungry, two if you're starving, three if you're crazy!

  • SkeeterNYC on 01/04/11

HOW TO LOVE YOURSELF MORE: Try the mini arepa balls in the appetizer menu then add generous amounts of their secret sauce.

    Great food, lousy (table) service.
