Description

Village Voice's Description

This French bistro wins kudos for being the first to incorporate African flavors into the bistro menu, and the sirloin steak (called korhogofefemougou) comes rubbed with kola nut and grains of paradise--an African seed substituted for black pepper in medieval Europe. The effect on the steak is more timid than it sounds, though the fried yuca on the side is a welcome substitute for french fries. The rest of the menu hints at francophone West African dishes like mafe, cheb, and aloko while remaining true to the bistro formula along with some North African and South American stuff as well.

Tips from foursquare

  • BLOUIN ARTINFO on 06/11/10

A quick hop from downtown galleries, this French-African restaurant serves up choice cocktails. Their caipirinha may be New York's best.

absolutely love this place. great for late night spontaneous dancing! always good Djs.

  • Jen N. on 09/25/11

A perfect place to go for anytime of day -- brunch, lunch, dinner or late night. Be prepared to speak at least three languages throughout the course of the night.

  • Noah S. on 06/13/10

    Best brunch in the LES!

  • Gabriel P. on 10/06/12

A entrada de mariscos na casca "Mussels w/ chorizo sauce" (servida no sábado) é a melhor surpresa que vem da cozinha.
