Description

Village Voice's Description

La Esquina is a beast of an establishment. Known first for its street stand tacos (beef, veggie, fish, chicken, etc.), and expanded the offerings of its NoLita location to two more distinct spaces: the street-level space known as the Cafe, which serves a full menu; and the basement-level space, the Brasserie, which serves an extensive dinner menu, has a full bar featuring an absurd 200 cocktails, and has live DJs from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. each night. Each of the spaces serves the tacos, though, and the extended menus trend toward locally-sourced ingredients and upscale Mexican otherwise. The service can be inconsistent, as reservations can be hard to come by and the staff sometimes seems to exploit the spot's exclusivity. The joint is open until 3 a.m., though, and is a great place to have a quintessential twenty-something's Manhattan night out. --Shane Barnes

Straight out of a scene from Goodfellas. As others will tell you, it is a great little "speak easy" spot. Awesome food, excellent selection of Tequila's. Also great for a large group or entertaining clients for the first time. Get reservations in advance! Once you it set just walk in and knock on the freezer door, the rest of the experience from there will be momorable.

I love La Esquina. It's super posh VIP zone. One of my favorite spots. Killer gourmet Mexican food, bad ass tequila selection and really good music. I've always been really stoked on this spot and I always go here when I'm in New York.

Otherwise known as La Esquina this place is worst kept secret in NY. Because the ambiance of this place is simply irresistable not to brag about.. Just read all the reviewes.. Don't go, RUN there (make sure to make reservations first) and you will not be dissapointed.

This haute Mexican eatery is harder to get into than Harvard, having built a rep around fancy tequilas and ceviche. Can't snag abooth? The no-frills, street-level taqueria can sate your wounded ego.

Try the Pescado a las Brasas taco, available at the sit-down café and takeout taqueria. It's one of NYC's 26 best tacos!

At the basement of a corner Taio shop lies a seductive laid-back dungeon, where you can lounge and sip on some great margaritas. -Julie Kwon, Launch My Line

  • Like finding El Dorado beneath a taco shack. Head downstairs, take the scenic route through the kitchen to find amazing scene of tequila, huitlacoche quesadillas and total hotness.

Everyone knows to get the corn, but try the rice milk. Get it to go and walk around the hood.
