Judson Memorial Church

Map & Directions 239 Thompson St.
New York, NY 10012

Village Voice's Description

Built in 1890 and designed by Stamford White, Judson Memorial Church (erected on the south end of Washington Square) aspired to unite the immigrants that lived to the south and the rich people that lived to the north. This idea ultimately failed, but Judson Memorial is still instrumental in its outreach ministries. The secret here is to knock on the east door and get someone to let you into the sanctuary, which has a magnificent rose window at the south end and detailed stained glass windows on the west and east sides.
