Description

Village Voice's Description

Since the demise of Manila Garden, Ihawan has taken its place as the city's foremost Filipino eatery, not just featuring barbecue, but regaling us with off-the-wall culinary combinations that mix Spanish, Chinese, and Malay: laing (taro leaves simmered in coconut milk), papaitan (tripe-and-heart soup), and the pan-Latin standard menudo.

Try the crispy pata here, a fantastically fatty Filipino-style pork knuckle. Featured in Cheap Eats 2011!

"No matter how many farm-to-table renditions of pork belly you’ve tried, lechon kawali, uncured bacon deep-fried and cut into cubes, is a simple delight" ($7.75).

    try the avocado shake!

Lechon kawali is going to be your best friend here. That and the BBQ pork skewers. Repeat after me..."fat is good"
