Description

Village Voice's Description

Descended from the famed Hofbrau Haus in Munich, Germany,
the Bierhaus is intended as a miniature version. Climb the steep
stairs to the second floor to find a vast, sky-lit room crowded with long tables (pain in the ass #1: finding a seat) and a noise level so high (pain in the ass #2) that you'll need earplugs. The beer--there are usually five varieties available, only on tap--tends to be excellent, while the food is mediocre, but relatively inexpensive by Midtown standards. Go for the wursts, of which a multiplicity are available, and skip Bavarian standards like sauerbraten, sauerkraut balls, and the mushy cucumber salad. For snackers, the gargantuan pretzel is a great pleasure.

Tips from foursquare

Look out for a variety of beers (lager, hefe weizen, dunkel, dunkel weizen, bock, Knut bock) running on 24 taps, live music, and enough wurst derivatives to tide you over until Oktoberfest.

Just opened amazing and authentic German bierhaus. Try the Bierhaus Pretzel (Large) with hot mustard, the Weisswurst and a Hofbrau.

  • Wynne on 09/28/13

This is the worst bar in New York. The bouncers are racist, low life pricks with nothing better to do than hang out in Midtown on a Saturday afternoon. You're better off giving your money to Wendy's.

WOW Free 1/2 liter of Hofbräu Original!

  • Brew York on 09/19/11

Through 10/3, you can reserve a table here for their daily noon or 6pm seating for $70pp, which entitles you to two beer tickets, one food ticket, live entertainment, and a boisterous atmosphere!
