Heritage of Pride

Map & Directions 154 Christopher St.
New York, NY 10014

Village Voice's Description

In the world of LGBT groups, Heritage of Pride is the wise emcee. Organizer of the Pride march, rally, and Pridefest, which an estimated 750,000 people attend, HOP has got the divas, the big bunches of rainbow balloons, the floats, the beats, and the sass to throw a killer party. But letas not sell them short: HOPas members have business sense, too: Each parade and dance on the pier doubles as a fundraiser, and a smart 14-member executive board governs the group and works those funds. They have learned well from their predecessors, who were instrumental in renaming part of Christopher Street aStonewall Place.a

Yesterday, I was here to march in the 44th Annual NYC LGBT Pride Parade. NYC was the birthplace of gay rights movement, and it's where all people are free be themselves.
