Built in 1799, Gracie Mansion has gone through several incarnations: it was a concession stand, a restroom facility, a museum, and nowawith a grand ballroom and a host of other useless crapa it is the mayoras mansion. One of the oldest surviving wood structures in New York (imagine the termite bill). Reservation required for all tours. To make reservations please call (212)570-4773.

    Gracie Mansion was built in 1799. A different building was commandeered by George Washington on roughly the same site during the American Revolutionary War, as it strategically overlooked Hell Gate.
